Substitute Teaching

Rockdale County Public Schools is always looking for great talent to add to our substitute teaching pool. These are great opportunities to make a difference by providing our students with high-quality learning experiences every day – in every school – in every subject area!

As a reminder, substitute teaching positions are available on a temporary, as-needed basis.  These positions come without benefits or the ability to draw unemployment. You are not guaranteed any specific number of days of employment. 



HOW TO APPLY

All applicants interested in becoming a substitute teacher must complete the online application for the substitute teacher poolYou will only be able to submit an application if the pool is open.  Although certified teachers are desired, the minimum requirement to apply will be to hold an associates degree or the equivalent of (60 credit hours) of college or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.

STEP 1– Log into the RCPS Recruiting and Hiring Tool (Frontline, CLICK HERE)
STEP 2
– If the substitute teacher position pool is open, start an application for employment.
STEP 3 – Apply for the Substitute teacher pool, complete application and attach the following documents: 

•   Current Resume
•   Official college transcripts sent via eScript or mailed directly to Human Resources from the College/University attended.  All foreign transcripts must be equivocated, through an approved agency.  See Evaluation of Credentials.
•   Substitute Training Certificate/Diploma. You can receive this online with STEDI.org or in person with Griffin RESA in Griffin, GA.
•   Teaching certificate, (if applicable)  
If you are unable to attach the documents in the Recruiting and Hiring Tool, please scan and email to the Human Resources Department, attention Tami Grier, at [email protected] or mail to 960 Pine Street, Conyers, GA 30012.

STEP 4 – Three (3) electronic reference forms must be submitted. One reference must be from a current or former supervisor.  References will be verified.  An application will be considered only if a minimum of three references are on file. (Additional references may be required.) Additional Inquiries regarding Substitute Teaching with RCPS may be directed to Tami Grier via email at tgrier@rockdale.k12.ga.us

Your application will be reviewed, and if you are selected as a candidate to be included in the substitute pool, you will be contacted by the Human Resources Department to schedule a background screening, the fee, $51.50, must be paid in the form of money order or cashier’s check. Personal Checks and cash will not be accepted. You will receive more information during the hiring process.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all completed applications will be selected for hire.
