Rotary honors top 2023 seniors

RCPS seniors honored by Rotary Club of Conyers, pictured at the March 23, 2023 ceremony at the RCPS Board Room with RCPS Superintendent Dr. Terry Oatts and Rotary Club of Conyers President Michael Hutchinson; SHS students and subjects are English – Sara Abdalla, Math – Mishyel Harper, Foreign Language – Victor Montoya, Art – Arden Crawford, CTAE – Abigail Cano, ROTC – Jordan Herndon, Science – Ethan Niemczyk, Social Studies – Graham King, Performing Arts – Amori Fulcher.The Rotary Club of Conyers honored outstanding Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) seniors from Salem High School, Rockdale County High School, Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, and Heritage High School with the Rotary Senior Awards at the March 23, 2023 Rotary Club of Conyers meeting and luncheon held at the RCPS Board Room, Conyers, Ga.  Seniors were recognized in the areas of Performing Arts, Social Studies, Music/Band, Foreign Language, English, JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), Physical Education, Science, Art, CTAE (Career Technical and Agricultural Education), and Math. Special thanks to organizers and to the parents, teachers, mentors, and all who support these students as they grow and achieve. The following students (listed with their subject, name, intended plans after high school - college/military/workforce, intended field of study, career aspiration) were recognized:


SALEM HIGH SCHOOL:

English – Sara Abdalla, TBA.                      
Math – Mishyel Harper, Kennesaw State University, plans to become an entrepreneur, own a small business, and become a makeup artist.   
Foreign Language – Victor Montoya, Kennesaw State University, plans to become an information technology manager.       
Art – Arden Crawford, plans on entering the workforce as a substitute teacher with aspiration to become an English teacher.    
CTAE – Abigail Cano, Northern Illinois University, majoring in pre-law, plans to become a civil justice attorney. 
ROTC – Jordan Herndon, Lenoir-Rhyne University, majoring in criminal justice, plans to become a lawyer for family law.
Science – Ethan Niemczyk, plans on attending the University of Georgia or Georgia Tech for literature, media, and communication.
Social Studies – Graham King, Mercer University, plans on becoming a lawyer.
Performing Arts – Amori Fulcher, Kennesaw State University, plans on working in the field of the arts and dance.
Music / Band – Caleb Martin, Alabama State University, majoring in business administration and minoring in music, plans to work for a Fortune 500 company.
Physical Education – Jocelyn Streater-Nesbitt, Tennessee State University, Clemson, Jackson State, Voorhees University, or Grambling State University, plans on becoming an epidemiologist.

HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL:

English – Clarissa Johnson, Augusta University, majoring in nursing, plans on becoming an emergency room nurse.   
Math – Zada Washington, Southern University in Louisiana, majoring in business and marketing, plans on becoming a professional dancer or a plastic surgeon.    
Foreign Language – Linda Lopez, TBA.
Art – Brooklyn Compton, Howard or Agnes Scott majoring in Psychology, plans on becoming a licensed art therapist in a clinical setting.
CTAE – Sidney Smith, TBA.     
ROTC – Thornton Fears, III, Albany State University, majoring in management of information systems.
Science – Gabrielle Bray, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, majoring in mechanical engineering, plans on becoming a mechanical engineer for NASA.
Social Studies – Christina Roland, Coastal Alabama, majoring in agriculture and hospitality, plans on becoming an agronomist.
Performing Arts – Destiny Carter, is enlisted in the Army National Guard and will attend Columbus State University, majoring in theater performance, plans on becoming a TV actress or a sports broadcaster.
Music / Band – Adam Spencer, Florida A&M University majoring in mechanical engineering, plans on using 3D design and engraving skills to make a career in the field of engineering.
Physical Education – Nadir Marshall, TBA.

ROCKDALE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL:

English – Jasmine Basila, Georgia State University, plans on a career in history-based academics in either teaching or in research.
Math – Paul Garland, III, Kennesaw State University for math or Georgia State University for nutrition, plans on becoming a mathematician or dietician / nutritionist. 
Foreign Language – Jarrell Cain, will be entering the workforce, plans on going into entertainment / music industry.     
Art – Patrick Willis, will be entering the workforce, plans on pursuing a career in real estate.                
CTAE - Chavez Milam, Hampton University, plans on becoming a film producer.                      
ROTC – Jason Cain, United States Marine Corps, plans on going into automotive music or EA sports.
Science – Madison Presha’, Toccoa Falls, biology, plans on becoming a veterinarian or wildlife rehabilitator.
Social Studies – Kyler Havens, plans on attending the Fire Academy and trade school.
Performing Arts – Kiara Moscati, plans on attending Georgia State University.
Music / Band – Darrius Patterson, Kennesaw State University / Computer engineering, plans on becoming a, IT specialist.
Physical Education – Makaibri Moore, MTSU, plans to become a graphic designer / animator.

ROCKDALE MAGNET SCHOOL FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:

Math – Maxwell Zhang, University of Chicago majoring in math and or physics, plans on pursuing his education in math / physics to a PhD degree, also planning on doing research in either field. 
Science – Duc Le, Georgia Tech, waiting to hear from other colleges before deciding, plans to go into biological and microbial research or medicine with a major in biology.
