2018 STAR Students and Teachers

2018 STAR Students and Teachers with officials, group photoThe 2018 STAR Students and Teachers were recognized by the Conyers and Rockdale Rotary Clubs February 15, 2018. These students achieved the highest SAT score in their school.

Congratulations to county-wide STAR Student Noah Crafts of Rockdale County High School/Rockdale Career Academy! He selected Mrs. Nola Costin as his STAR Teacher. 

STAR Students and Teachers:

Salem High School - Octavia Herbert; teacher Mr. Nicolas Walker. Octavia hopes to attend George Washington University to study Political Science . She thanked Mr. Walker for always pushing her to reach her potential.

Heritage High School - Ronan Fitzgerald; teacher Mr. Brian Patrick Kicklighter. Ronan hopes to attend Washington University in St. Louis to study Business or History. He thanked Coach Kicklighter for being a good teacher and a good man.

Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology - Claire Smith; she selected her former teacher (who is now a Principal) at Barksdale Elementary Dr. Jill Murphy. Claire plans to attend Georgia State University to study Mathematics. She credits Dr. Murphy with igniting her love of math and being instrumental in her academic career. 

Rockdale County High School - Noah Craft; teacher Mrs. Nola Costin. Noah started as a Dual Enrollment student at age 14 and is currently taking classes at Georgia Tech and Georgia State where he plans to study Computer Science, International Relations, and Linguistics. He credits great school counselors, including Mr. Dustin Allen, with making his Dual Enrollment career possible. Noah said his STAR teacher Mrs. Costin had the ability to nurture the unique gifts in each student and allow them to soar. 

The STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student honor is awarded to one student in each high school with the highest SAT score who is also in the top 10 or top 10 percent of their class. That student selects a teacher as their STAR Teacher. Thank you to the Rockdale and Conyers Rotary and to the STAR Student and Teacher ceremony sponsor Synovus Bank. The award is a program of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).
